The College Football Playoff selection committee ranked Indiana University’s undefeated football team No. 8 on Tuesday in the first iteration of rankings that will eventually determine playoff berths.
If it were the final rankings, IU would play a first-round game at Tennessee. The winner of that game would play Oregon.
IU has the weakest strength of schedule in the preliminary 12-team field.
But, said Warde Manuel, chair of the selection committee, “What Indiana has done on the field … averaging 33 points a game more than their opponents. … They’re just a really great team.”
