Applications are open for the 2025 Rural Placemaking Studio, an Indiana University program for enhancing rural communities through art and design.

The program is a partnership between the IU ServeDesign Center at Eskenazi and the Center for Rural Engagement. It connects IU faculty and students with rural residents to develop “vibrant, accessible public places.”

The program is designed for rural communities of 50,000 people or fewer, with preference given to areas within a roughly 90-mile radius of Bloomington.

In 2024, the Rural Placemaking Studio collaborated with 13 communities on projects such as murals, architecture, park design, and downtown revitalization.

Applications close on January 17. Volunteer groups, chambers of commerce, and local governments are among those eligible to apply.
