The Indiana football team is up to fifth in the latest college football playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

But because the first four spots in the 12-team playoff are awarded to the champions of the Big four conferences, the Hoosiers are currently seeded seventh in the playoff bracket.

They would host Alabama in the opening round of the playoffs the weekend of Dec. 20 and 21.

But there’s a long way to go before that happens.

The Hoosiers are unbeaten this season at 10-0. Indiana has a bye this weekend but plays at number two Ohio State on Nov. 23.The Hoosiers wrap up the regular season at home on Nov. 30 against rival Purdue. If IU wins both games, it would play in the Big Ten championship game Dec. 7 in Indianapolis.

The final playoff rankings and bracket will be released on Sunday, Dec. 8.
