The first section of the Monon South Trail is now open. The multi-use trail runs 1.27 miles from Stetson Street to Freeman’s Corner in the town of Orleans.

The trail is mostly asphalt, with some crushed aggregate. It also has a new trailhead with parking, a restroom, a bike rack, and other amenities.

This is the first of five segments to open in phase one of the Monon South project. In total, phase one will build more than 20 miles of trail in five counties. That includes segments in Borden, New Pekin, Salem, Campbellsburg, Saltillo, and Mitchell.

The Monon South corridor runs about sixty miles through southern Indiana.

The state’s Next Level Trails program is funding the project.  More than 113 miles of trails have been built since the program’s inception.
