Judge dismisses Jan. 6 case against former IU student after pardon

A federal judge has dismissed the case against former IU student Antony Vo for his role in the January 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Upon taking office earlier this month, President Trump issued sweeping pardons for those involved in the riots.

In June, Vo was sentenced to nine months in prison and then fled to Canada, where at one point he sought asylum.

In a searing court order Tuesday, judge Tanya S. Chutkan wrote that pardons such as Vo’s “cannot whitewash the blood, feces, and terror that the mob left in its wake. And it cannot repair the jagged breach in America’s sacred tradition of peacefully transitioning power.”
