Free tax assistance is available from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will help residents making less than $60,000 dollars a year until March 26, according to the school. No appointment is required. Located in Baier Hall at 211 South Indiana Avenue, the program opens Monday and Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. and closes at 9:30 p.m.
To receive tax services, people should bring identification, a Social Security card and relevant documents such as W-2 forms. Volunteers cannot assist residents who own a business or have received income from the sale of stocks, mutual funds, or homes.
Maurer Law reported 54 volunteers helped residents file 865 federal tax returns last year and brought almost $1 million in refunds and credits.
The program is closed March 11-12, during IU’s spring break.
