The Bloomington Fire Department has a new medical tool that will advance the capabilities of its Mobile Integrated Healthcare program.
These telemedicine kits for use in the field will help people who cannot get to the doctor or other health providers.
Bloomington is the first in the nation to utilize these kits.
Tania Daffron, assistant chief, said the kit comes with medical assessment tools and a computer system that can allow a doctor to see the patient in real time.
“So, it could be the blood pressure. It could be the oxygen saturation level. It could be the heart tracings, the EKGS,” said Daffron.
The telemedicine kits, supplied by Tech4Life, are funded through a grant from Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
Team members are taking additional training courses before the kits are deployed.
