Businesses along Kirkwood Avenue in Bloomington soon will be able to apply for the Outdoor Dining Program.
At its public meeting Monday, the Board of Public Works unanimously approved the guidelines for this year’s Outdoor Dining Program, which will see the complete closure of Kirkwood Avenue from the 100 block of Walnut to the 500 block of Indiana.

According to the 2025 guidelines, businesses with a capacity of less than 20 will pay 500 dollars to use outdoor space. Businesses with a capacity between 20 and 100 will pay $1,250 and those with a capacity of 100 and above will pay $3,500. Each business is required to have a ramp for curb access and to have wheelchair-accessible seating.
The city’s Economic and Sustainable Development Department still is working with businesses to address access for delivery trucks and alley ways.

The deadline to apply for the Outdoor Dining Program is March. 3.
The program goes from Friday, April. 4 to Monday, Nov. 10.
