The bike lane will be closed between North Grant Street and North Dunn Street.
The bike lane will be closed between North Grant Street and North Dunn Street.

A section of the Seventh Street bike lane in Bloomington will be closed from Feb. 17 to Nov. 21. The lane will be closed so FA Wilhelm Construction can safely operate a crane and other equipment for the Poplars redevelopment project, the city said in a press release.

The south sidewalk will remain closed; pedestrians will be directed to the sidewalk on the north side of Seventh Street. Street parking will not be impacted.

The redevelopment will be rental housing for Indiana University students, prioritizing graduate students. The IU Board of Trustees approved the $81 million project in August 2023.

IU spokesperson Mark Bode said the apartments will be move-in ready by summer 2026.

Indiana University has owned the Poplars site since the 1970s. The previous building was demolished in 2022.

The new building will be six stories tall, with nearly 400 beds. The project’s portfolio website says the building will have studio through 4-bedroom apartments available to rent.
