The Joann Fabrics store in Bloomington will be closing along with half of the chain’s other locations across the United States, the company announced Wednesday. In total, 533 locations are closing.
Nineteen other Indiana stores are closing. Only seven stores in the state will remain open, including locations in Avon, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Greenwood, Lafayette and Terre Haute.
In Indianapolis, two stores are closing and one will remain open.
Joann filed for bankruptcy in March 2024, and filed again this January. It said it’s selling properties to maximize value.
“Right-sizing our store footprint is a critical part of our efforts to ensure the best path forward for JOANN,” it said in a statement.
It has not been decided when the locations will close. Joann said employees will continue to receive pay and benefits as it evaluates a path forward.
