The City of Bloomington is issuing fines against its former fiber network project partner, Trueline.

The company, formerly known as Atlantic Engineering Group, went bankrupt earlier this year. It was tasked with installing high-speed internet fiber lines throughout the city.

In the last two years, Trueline has been fined about $8 million, according to Andrew Cibor, director of city engineering. Several properties, streets, and alleys were damaged and left unrepaired.

Cibor said the largest fine came this month, totaling $7.6 million for one violation. He did not specify the violation.

Some fines have been paid but the city does not expect to receive the full $8 million, according to Cibor. Instead, the city’s priority is to repair damage at more than 100 locations. That includes holes left in city streets and alleys, as well as damaged resident properties. The city expects to find more unrepaired areas.

Cibor said the city is in regular communication with Hoosier Fiber Networks to address outstanding issues.
