Brown County considering new Vote Centers plan

There are more early voters at this point in Monroe County than in 2016 and 2020.
There are more early voters at this point in Monroe County than in 2016 and 2020.

Brown County is exploring the possibility of replacing traditional polling sites with voting centers, which would be open to all of the county’s registered voters.

The county election board voted last month to establish a Vote Center Study Committee. Members of the committee would create a draft plan, hold public meetings, and then present a final plan to the county council and county board of commissioners.

The election board’s initial concept is to cut the county’s current number of polling locations from 11 to 5. Brown County schools would also be used as polling places. Each location would be open to every voter in Brown County instead of limiting residents to a certain area.

So far, 65 of Indiana’s 92 counties currently use vote centers.
