Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington will graduate more than 1,000 students Friday night.

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. at the Indiana University Auditorium, and tickets are not required to attend. About 1,400 students earned 1,850 associate degrees and certificates. Chancellor Erik Coyne said more than 80 percent of graduates stay in their communities.

“They’re your HVAC technicians, nurses, teachers, and so much more—all helping to make the Bloomington region a great place to live and work,” Coyne said. “We are proud to call them alumni and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments.”

A third of graduates earned transfer degrees and certificates. The campus has a guaranteed admission partnership with Indiana University for biology, criminal justice, elementary education, informatics and psychology.

Eight military veterans and five international students from Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Kenya will graduate Friday, the campus said.

More than 450 graduates earned credentials while in high school. The campus reported 11 students are on track to earn full associate degrees graduating high school.

Twenty-eight people will graduate through the campus Achieve Your Degree program, an employer-paid program for qualifying associate degrees and certificates.

Britney Khan, co-president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and informatics graduate, will give the commencement address. Kahn, who’s graduating with honors, will describe her experience as a first-generation student after moving to the U.S.

“Ivy Tech represents more than a college—it represents possibility,” Khan said. “It gave me a beginning where I could not only earn credits but ultimately set myself up for long-term success.”
