A Bloomington student alleges she was sexually assaulted repeatedly on a school bus by a classmate at Bloomington High School North in 2022. Her lawsuit filed last year against Bloomington North and the Monroe County Community School Corporation is proceeding toward trial.

The student’s attorneys argue the school and corporation didn’t properly train their employees to prevent the assaults, violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and Title IX protections from sex discrimination.

According to the complaint, school officials knew about the assaults and notified the student’s mother that the boy she said was abusing her would no longer be allowed on the bus. But her lawyers argue the school and district failed to keep him away or properly involve law enforcement.

The jury trial is scheduled to begin July 26 next year. Attorneys for neither side responded to a request for comment in time for publication.
