A federal judge in Indianapolis is ordering the government to prove why it shouldn’t release FBI search warrants allowing searches of the homes of an IU cybersecurity professor this spring.
The university and the government have been silent on the case of XiaoFeng Wang, whom IU fired on the day of the search.

Stanford University researcher Rianna Pfefferkorn filed a motion to unseal the warrants in early April.
Judge Tanya Walton Pratt said the government hasn’t argued that releasing a redacted version could violate the secrecy of a grand jury or risk identifying uncharged subjects.
It has until May 27 to make its case and propose redacted versions of the warrant materials.
