The next step in the expansion of the Bloomington Convention Center happens Wednesday.

The Bloomington City Council will vote on moving $10 million from the food and beverage tax fund to the Capital Improvement Board for funding initial construction expenses for the convention center.
Bloomington’s food and beverage tax cash balance is currently $19,943,164, which is expected to drop to $9,943,164 if the council approves the money transfer.
The Capital Improvement Board, which manages project development, is in planning and design phases for convention center expansion.

Additional funds from the food and beverage tax are expected to be used for future phases of construction.
The next meeting of the Monroe County Capital Improvement Board is Wednesday before the city council meeting. The agenda includes the board’s latest financial report and a design update.
Groundbreaking is set for Tuesday, June 3 at 3:30 p.m.
