Indiana’s football team is ranked 19th in the preseason coaches’ poll released Monday.

The Hoosiers are coming off one of their best seasons in history, going 11-2 and making the college football playoffs for the first time.

Second-year coach Curt Cignetti says IU can’t afford to rely on last year’s success.

"Every team, regardless of your record the year before, you got to start at ground zero in January, and we're very process oriented, buy into the process, improve daily, no limitations on what you can accomplish," Cignetti said.

Indiana is one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25. That includes No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Penn State and No. 7 Oregon.

The Hoosiers open the season August 30 at Memorial Stadium against Old Dominion.

WFIU/WTIU News is an independent newsroom rooted in public service.

“Act Independently” is one of the basic creeds of journalism ethics, and we claim it proudly. The WFIU/WTIU News facilities are located on the campus of Indiana University, which does hold our broadcast license and contribute funding to our organization. However, our journalists and senior news leaders have full authority over journalistic decisions — what we decide to cover and how we tell our stories. We observe a clear boundary: Indiana University and RTVS administrators focus on running a strong and secure organization; WFIU/WTIU journalists focus on bringing you independent news you can trust.
