Duruflé’s Requiem
Duruflé’s Requiem
Bloomington Chamber Singers to offer Duruflé’s Majestic Requiem
Bloomington, Indiana, 4 April 2026
Rounding out the Bloomington Chamber Singers regular season will be Duruflé’s 1947 Requiem.
Paying homage to early French liturgical chant, Duruflé’s Requiem haunting setting of the requiem
mass allows the listener to be transported beyond the centuries with the merging of ancient melodies
with mid-20th century sacred tones. This amalgamation of ancient line with the postwar musicality
creates a unique and lasting impression on the listener, whether encountering the work for the first or
the fortieth time.
In addition to the Requiem, audience members will be treated to a French madrigal Tourdion (Quand
je bois du vin clairet) as an acapella processional. The light-hearted, frolicking madrigal provides a
wonderful juxtaposition to the sacred sincerity of the beloved Requiem Mass.
The evening’s program, conducted by artistic director, Caio Guimarães, will be presented at St.
Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 N st. R. 46, Bloomington. The presentation will begin at 4:00
pm. In-person tickets are available either through pre-sale or at the door. A live-stream option is also
available. General admission tickets for the concert are $20 or $15 for students. Additional
