THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERSBy Carlos Goldoni • Translated by Edward J. DentAdapted and directed by Caroline GoodThursday–Saturday, Nov. 6–8 • 7:30 p.m.Sunday, Nov. 9 • 3 p.m.Green Center, Moore Theatre
In the commedia dell'arte tradition, traveling acting troupes playing stock characters challenged social norms and politics in the guise of entertainment. In this classic comedy set in Venice, mayhem erupts when the wily—and chronically hungry—servant Arlecchino hatches a zany scheme to double his wages (and his meals) by serving two masters at once amidst an intrigue of lovers, misers, and blowhards. Identities are mistaken, engagements are broken, swords are drawn, and lovers are finally reunited in this adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s commedia dell’arte masterpiece.
Content advisory: This production includes some mild language and bawdy humor.
