The Wind Rises is the 19th animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. It is based on the serialized manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Miyazaki on Model Graphix magazine and Tatsuo Hori’s acclaimed 1937 novel The Wind Has Risen.
The film chronicles the life of Jiro Horikoshi, a Japanese aircraft designer who dreams of flight despite poor eyesight. The story follows his journey as he designs planes, navigates his love for a woman named Nahoko, and grapples with the tragic implications of his work during the rise of World War II. It blends historical events like the Great Kanto Earthquake with fictional elements, offering a mature and personal story about ambition, love, and the beauty and destruction of dreams
