Rob Lowden, Indiana University Vice President of Information Technology, announced his departure to staff, according to an email obtained by WFIU/WTIU News.
IU announced the change later Wednesday.
The move follows a university-wide “security incident” that left websites down for weeks, impacting about 2,600 pages across IU. IT officials told staff in a private meeting the university would likely never explain publicly how the incident happened.
Lowden will step down July 31 and begin as Chief Information Officer at Ohio State University. He’s held IT and leadership roles at IU since 1998.
University Information Technology Services has more than 1,200 full-time employees who work in IU’s multi-campus university system.
“UTIS is a national — and indeed international — model of innovation, dedication, and excellence in higher education IT,” Lowden’s email said. “What we’ve built together is nothing short of extraordinary, and the talent, commitment, and collaborative spirit of this team continue to inspire me.”
A university spokesperson deferred to an IU Today news release.
"We’re grateful to Rob for his leadership and dedication to IU, which has empowered innovation across our campuses,” IU President Pamela Whitten said in the release.
