Bec Roldan
Bec Roldan (they/them) is the 2023 AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellow at NPR. They are a 5th year Ph.D. candidate and science journalist developing new synthetic routes to make a class of biologically interesting compounds found in red wine at the University of Michigan.
They are the co-founder and co-host of the podcast My Fave Queer Chemist, a show founded in 2020 that highlights the rich experiences of queer and trans chemists at all stages of their career. Through this work, they've presented on inclusive science communication at national chemistry and STEM conferences. Roldan has also served as a Chemistry Department SciComm Writing Fellow at the University of Michigan, a Science Communication Fellow for the UM Museum of Natural History and a Public Engagement Fellow at UM's Office of the Vice President of Research.
Roldan is originally from Saint Francisville, L.A., and received their B.S. in Chemistry from Rhodes College in 2019. In their free time, Roldan enjoys watching women's college basketball (Go Blue!), going on hikes and checking out breweries. [Copyright 2025 NPR]
