Late Sarah, Early Fred: Sarah Vaughan and Fred Astaire

Sarah Vaughan and Fred Astaire were two icons of American popular culture in the 20th century—Vaughan a supremely gifted jazz singer and Astaire a dynamic dancer whose movies also featured songs, sung by Astaire, that helped build the Great American Songbook. Recently-released anthologies showcase Astaire in his early years, singing songs from his 1930s movies, and Vaughan in her later years, performing the songs of Duke Ellington. Those releases are featured on this edition of Afterglow, along with music from Frank Sinatra, Hazel Scott, and Anita O'Day.
