Bloomington Playwrights Project: Fatal Attraction

"Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy" at the Bloomington Playwrights Project is a very funny send up of the 1987 movie with Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer. Just in case play fans need a refresher the show begins with the preview for the movie.

Michael Carey actually looks a little like Michael Douglas and has a delightfully clueless quality. Carmen Rae Meyers hair curled to a fair thee well was a seductive and menacing Glenn Close. Bethany Barber was simply over the top as a women too addicted to wifely and motherly roles. Justin Harner was a wonder as Douglas and Barber's four year old bunny loving child.

Ellen Foley, Bill Goveia, Benji Loudermilk and Anisa Dema were sometimes deeply thoughtful and at other times dignifiedly dippy as the Greek Chorus. They smoothly filled in all the other parts for the show as well.

Overall direction of this fast moving show is by BPP Artistic Director Richard Perez. In addition he's brought in two exemplary choreographers Adam Noble does an incredible job with a fight that hasCarmen Meyers laying out every one of the cast members and a couple of extras as well. Madonna Evans choreographical boiled bunny night mare send up of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" had the audience roaring with appreciative laughter.

Ash Williams sound design mixes in one oft heard eighties tune after other in delightfully peculiar harmony and counterpoint to the action.

"Fatal Attraction: a Greek Tragedy" continues at the Bloomington Playwrights Project with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons through November 17th.
