Here's a look at what's in the limelight this week in Local Arts News.

‘ArtsWeek 2011' Hits IU Bloomington

This month Indiana University presents its week-long, annual celebration of the arts. ArtsWeek 2011 runs from February 17 to 27 and features dozens of exhibitions, performances and other events. This year's theme is "ArtsTeach." To celebrate, area arts organizations have collaborated with kids aged K-12 at local schools. For one such project, called Tag!, Edgewood high school students have created an installation at the Twin Lakes Recreation Center. For another, students at Bloomington High School South will display their photographs at the By Hand Gallery, the Pour House Café, Starbucks East, and the MCCSC Administration Building.

  • Palladium Gala Attracts Carmel's Elite

Carmel's new $126 million concert hall opened Saturday with a three part, nine hour gala. Thirty thousand roses filled a heated tent, the event's main space, strewn about and hung from five 6-foot chandeliers that hung overhead. The festivities included performances by Dionne Warwick, Michael Feinstein, and Chris Botti, an alumnus of IU's Jacobs School of Music. The hope is that the Palladium will attract artists from all over the world.
