Video Special - Exploring The Silent Era At The Lilly Library
On this final video from the Lilly Library, Manuscripts Archivist Craig Simpson is showing off some material from the Lilly archives covering the silent film era. We look at some materials from William Hays, R.E. Norman, and David Bradley.
We begin by looking at some material from Hays, the namesake of the Hays Code, the self-censorship code of Hollywood from the 1930s through the 1960s. We also look at some material from R.E. Norman, an independent filmmaker who made films with all black casts in the silent era.
We also take a close look at some of the material from the David Bradley collection, including correspondence from Preston Sturges and Bradley's close friend Charlton Heston.
