The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic's annual outdoor concert recognizing the contributions of men and women in the armed forces is titled "Salute!"
This year Major General Mark Pillar, USAF (Ret.) will be the master of ceremonies. Congressman Mike Pence will be on hand to narrate and award winning singer Joshua Conyers will be the vocal soloist.
Along with the patriotic music the first half of the evening features the orchestra in a "Big Band Blast." Following the intermission there will be the recognition of veterans and a special song. "It was Mark Pillar who told us about this one," says conductor David Bowden. "The Song "Somewhere Out There" from the movie An American Tail has become a sort of theme especially for the children and families of service men and women who're away."
As always Salute! will conclude with The 1812 Overture. "We're going to play the best part, the part with the cannons," say Bowden. "And we've got four big howitzers to do the job for a very loud and satisfying finale."
