The Singing Hoosiers, made a unexpected appearance at the Indiana University Auditorium on Thursday night. The Hoosiers surprised waiting fans with a surprise performance before the a cappella sensation Straight No Chaser took the stage.
Guests were waiting in the central lobby of the auditorium for the doors to open. Members of the choir entered through the back dressed in red choir robes and began singing the introduction of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, but were soon silenced by ushers. The lobby band then struck up a fast paced revival refrain. Ushers, choir members, and members of the crowd then joined in and finished a choreographed performance. Many bystanders were awestruck by the sudden, impromptu, flashmob.
The Singing Hoosiers are the contemporary vocal arts choir of the IU Jacobs School of Music directed by Steve Zegree. The choir consists of approximately 95 members and performs regularly throughout the academic year. Last night's flashmob is a recent trend for the 2012 season.
