DIY Hot Cereal

From Scratch

I prefer to cook everything from scratch, including my daily cereal.

Making your own hot cereal is great for spring and summer since the process involves drying a couple of ingredients, which is best done outside when it's warm and sunny out.

In addition to the standard oats and nuts, I like to incorporate mung beans that I sprout at home, as they are low in sodium and cholesterol and a great source of protein, vitamins and minerals.

When our son started solid food, his ‘baby food' was actually a home-made variation on this recipe. I would add yogurt and a pinch of salt or boiled peas, carrots and potatoes to the cereal for variety.
