USDA Announces Ground Beef Recall

Three major stores are recalling beef after E. coli was found during an inspection. The National Beef Packing Co. of Dodge City, Kansas announced yesterday that they were recalling more than 60,000 pounds of ground beef, mostly in the southeast region.

Winn-Dixie, Publix Super Markets Inc., and Kroger Co. were all recalling ground beef after the Ohio Department of Agriculture found the bacteria. The recall mostly concerns Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Indianapolis and Detroit meat packing companies may have received some of the tainted meat, and Wal-Mart stores in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Wyoming should also be aware.

Symptoms of E. coli include bloody diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. There have been no reported cases with this outbreak.

For a list of the recalled beef, check the USDA's list here.
