Tech, Trucks And Cronuts At SXSW

South by Southwest (SXSW) is underway in Austin, Texas. Between the TED talks and indie bands, there's a niche for foodies, too.

Food And Tech

Food and tech collide with IBM's supercomputer Watson, showcased at SXSW in a food truck.

Watson appeared on Jeopardy, beating contestants, and is now playing chef by indexing thousands of recipes and customizing them for visitors.

"Welcome to cognitive cooking" reads the side of the truck.

If that's not enough tech, festivalgoers can sample printed food, like 3-D printed Oreos.

Goodies

New York's Shake Shack is opening soon in Austin, but not soon enough for the festival. Shake Shack is giving out free burgers and fries courtesy of Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Cronuts made an appearance at the festival alongside famous Franklin Barbecue, much to foodies' delight. Owner of Franklin Barbecue Stacy Franklin and cronut (croissant + donut, for those who missed the craze) creator Dominique Ansel met and sharediconic treats.

Eater compiled a list of places to eat, beers to drink, best vegan options, and more at the Eater Austin's Guide To SXSW Eats, Drinks Guides.

Had Enough?

When you've had enough actual food, you can enjoy a comedy aptly titled Chef from actor and director Jon Favreau. Favreau plays a chef in need of change who joins social media and opens his own food truck—fitting right in with the Austin scene.

Who's eating their way through SXSW this week?
