Tomfoolery

In honor of April Fools Day this past Saturday, the Ether Brain Trust will be serving as you your band of merry pranksters tonight, on a show we're calling "Tomfoolery."

Did you know...

  • Lt. Kijé by Sergei Prokofiev is based on an anecdote about Emperor Paul I of Russia, regarding a time when he was fooled into believing an imaginary military officer existed.
  • Composer Dimitri Kabalevsky wrote mostly for children, including his famous work The Comedians and its well-known "Comedians' Galop."
  • The title character from Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks by Richard Strauss is based on a folk hero known to prank people in medieval times—the town on Möllin in Germany believes Till was buried there!
  • Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf's comic opera Archifanfano, King of Fools premiered on the estate of Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy, under the baton on Joseph Haydn.
  • The lead singer of the band The Main Ingredient, known for their hit "Everybody Plays The Fool," is Cuba Gooding Sr, father of Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr.
