Early Music in America: Texas

The state of Texas is alive with Early Music in a number of cities both large and small. Here's a list of some of the more well-established ensembles and organizations:

Austin

Texas Early Music Project - Founded in 1987 by its Artistic Director, Daniel Johnson, TEMP presents concerts of music from the Middle Ages through the Early Classical period.

Dallas/Fort Worth

Dallas Bach Society - Formed in 1982 and currently directed by James Richman, the ensemble presents varied programs of music from intimate chamber music to large choral works, primarily of repertoire from the baroque, but also extending into later music.

Orchestra of New Spain - Directed by Grover Wilkins, the orchestra specializesin music from the New World (17th and 18th Century), as well as the more standard works.

Texas Camerata - Formerly known as Fort Worth Early Music, the ensemble presents varied programs of chamber music for winds and strings.

Denton

UNT Early Music Ensembles - The University of North Texas can lay claim to one of the largest schools of music in North America. It's then of little surprise that they have a flourishing Early Music program with numerous ensembles that give concerts.
