Karina Gauvin and Les Boréades

Henry Purcell

Canadian soprano Karina Gauvin is known for her incredible versatility, exploring music from the Baroque all the way through the 20th Century. Her recordings of Baroque repertoire reveal a sensitive musician with a flair for elegance and drama.

Gauvin’s 2005 ATMA release of works by Henry Purcell is a perfect example. In collaboration with the Montreal-based ensemble Les Boréades, the performance glows with energy and speaks vibrantly.

Hyver

Karina Gauvin’s first ATMA recording with Les Boréades was devoted to the French Baroque, including cantatas and dance suites by Michel Corrette, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, and Nicolas Clérambault.

Most of the pieces have been recorded in the past, yet Gauvin and the ensemble discover something new to say, drawing out the music’s essence and giving us a window into the French salon of the mid-18th Century.
