Indiana is known as a very friendly place for school choice, which includes the option for a student to attend a charter school. The idea of increasing charters in Indiana is controversial, divided along political lines. Charter schools are public schools that use taxpayer dollars. They're tuition free and have open enrollment, but opponents question whether charter schools should be considered public.
