How New State Laws Will Affect Hoosiers

Most of the legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly in 2017 took effect on July 1.

These new laws range from requiring minors to wear helmets on ATVs, legalizing “Baby Boxes” for unwanted infants, protecting prayer in schools, and allowing people with restraining orders to carry handguns without a license.

In addition, about 45 taxes and fee increases went into effect for the start of the new fiscal year.

This week on Noon Edition, we talked with state legislators about new laws and taxes taking effect this month.

Guests:

Rep. Matt Pierce, D-Bloomington: Indiana State Representative District 61

Rep. Jeff Ellington, R-Bloomington Indiana State Representative District 62

Brandon Smith:  Statehouse Reporter, Indiana Public Broadcasting
