Broadcast Journalist Byron Pitts

As a journalist my job is a search for truth. When I was younger I saw some conflict or distance between my faith and my work. Now I don't at all.

Byron Pitts covered the Iraq War as an embedded reporter and was lead correspondent at Ground Zero immediately following the September 11 th attacks. Other stories he covered include the war in Afghanistan, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the refugee crisis in Kosovo.

Raised by a single mother in a working class neighborhood in Baltimore, Pitts was illiterate until the age of twelve and had a persistent stutter—a story he tells in his memoir Step Out on Nothing: How Family and Faith Helped Me Conquer Life's Challenges.
