A former high school English teacher, Newell is now director of public relations for Family Communications, Inc., which was founded by Fred Rogers to produce Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. He also travels the country as Mr. McFeely, keeping the message of Fred Rogers alive.
A documentary feature film, Speedy Delivery, which chronicles Newell's travels around the world as Mr. McFeely, was broadcast nationally on public television.
