Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center Director Audrey McCluskey

Audrey T. McCluskey is associate professor of African American and African Diaspora Studies at IU and director of the Neal–Marshall Black Culture Center. She served as Director of the Black Film Center/Archive Indiana for seven years. Her research and teaching focus on two areas: black women's agency in education and performance culture, and film and popular culture. She is a specialist on black women school founders and activists of the early 20th century, and her co-edited book, Mary McLeod Bethune: Building a Better World, is considered an authoritative work on the educator and leader. She is the author-editor of five books including Imaging Blackness: Race and Racial Representation in Film Poster Art, Frame by Frame III: A Filmography of the Black Diasporan Image, and upcoming Richard Pryor: The Life and Legacy of a ‘Crazy' Black Man and The Devil You Dance With: Film Culture in the New South Africa.
