Scholar of Religion Linda Woodhead

Nineteen eighty-nine was a key date in the transformation of religion. Some really important shifts have happened. . . . It was almost like a wave broke at that time. So I'm continually struggling to try and articulate that. "What are the main characteristics and the main changes?"

Linda Woodhead is Professor of Sociology of Religion at Lancaster University. She directs the AHRC/ESRC Religion and Society Programme, which funds 265 academics and researchers in their research on religion.

She co-founded the Westminster Faith Debates, an annual series that brings researchers into conversation with prominent figures in public life.

Books she's written or co-written include: Religions in the Modern WorldChristianity: A Very Short Introduction, and The Spiritual Revolution: Why Religion is Giving Way to Spirituality.
