Authorities say a teenage boy has been struck by a vehicle and critically injured while heading to school in Indianapolis.

The crash happened Monday morning on the city's west side. Police say the 16-year-old was believed to be crossing a street to get to a bus stop.

The teen's name wasn't immediately released. Police say he was unresponsive when officers arrived on the scene and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The driver was among those who called 911 to report that the teen had been struck. The driver was cooperating with police and the crash is under investigation.
