Hoosier Hills Food Bank donations are down by more than 14,000 pounds of food heading into the holiday season.
Community food drives supply most of the center’s canned and staple goods, which are then distributed to soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and other nonprofits.
Executive Director Julio Alonso says it’s not too late to help.
"We’re hoping that people will conduct more food drives for us," Alonso says. "We can supply you with barrels and pick those up once you’re done. So we encourage businesses, churches, individuals and organizations to come and do a food drive for us."
Alonso says Community Ford is running a food drive and matching their donations.
Hoosier Hills distributed nearly 4.5 million pounds of food in November throughout south central Indiana. That’s higher than any year in its 36 year history.
Alonso says he hopes that donations continue to meet the demand after the holidays.
