Smith’s Shoe Center is trying to sell its remaining inventory as it prepares to close at the end of the month.
The store has been open for 67 years.
Owner Steve says that he has created close relationships with others in the community, which will make the closing even harder.
"It’s been bittersweet, and it’s been a little bit like a funeral because so many people come in and talk about my grandfather or my dad or how long they’ve shopped with me."
According to Smith, it was the changing retail industry that led him to close the business.
With the lease ending on the first of January, all products in the store are 40 percent off.
Smith says a lot of customers who have shopped at his store for decades are now wondering where they’ll shop next.
"We’ve been very nicely supported for a number of years here in Bloomington and I feel very grateful for that support," he says.
