Emergency Hearing Set For Player's Pub Eviction Due To Unpaid Rent, Property Taxes

An emergency court hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon after a series of disputes between Player’s Pub owner Joe Estivill and property landlord Mary Hill.

Estivill says he failed to pay property taxes by Nov. 13 and was given a notice of eviction by this past Saturday, Dec. 15.

That morning Estivill says Hill tried to change the locks to the bar while he was working inside and called the police. In court documents, Hill says Estivill and co-tenant Victoria Kilmer owe $3,447.80 in property taxes and owe her more than $12,000 in rent and late fees, per the terms of the lease.

The property lease ends in July and Estivill says he was hoping to settle the matter then.

"If she didn’t like the relationship, take the money and let the lease run out and we go our separate ways then," he says. "But she thought that 10 days before Christmas was the best way to put us out of business."

In the eviction documents filed in Monroe County Court on Monday, Hill says Estivill and Kilmer damaged the building by forcibly entering it, breaking a window, and accessing the roof to get into the building.

Hill is asking a judge to enter judgement against Estivill and Kilmer for trespassing, and to award damages for the amount of the repair costs and attorney's fees.

Hill did not respond to requests for an interview.
