The former principal at Bloomington High School North has a new role within the Monroe County Community School Corporation.

Last month, MCCSC officials announced Michael Akers would no longer be in his leadership position at the high school.

But he’s now serving as Interim Assistant Director of Building Operations for the district until his final resignation takes effect on May 24, 2019.

Spokesperson Andrew Clampitt says MCCSC placed Akers on administrative leave in November. He says the decision for him to step down as principal and fill the new role was a mutual agreement.

The corporation’s Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Operations Andrea Mobley now serves as interim principal at Bloomington North. Clampitt says the mid-year transition was smooth.

"She was previously an Assistant Principal there," he says. "She has a great knowledge of Bloomington High School North, and kind of the staff and the students and the culture there."

The school board approved Mobley’s appointment to the role during a Nov. 13 hearing, which includes a $5,000 stipend for the position.
