Authorities say remains found last summer in an Indianapolis park have been identified as a man from El Salvador.

The FBI says the remains were recovered in connection with an ongoing investigation of the MS-13 gang in Ohio. Experts using DNA believe the man was Israel Mejia-Martinez, whose last address was Usultan, El Salvador.

The FBI said Thursday that Mejia-Martinez probably was killed a year ago and buried in a shallow grave. The remains were recovered in August in a wooded area at Grassy Creek Regional Park. The University of Indianapolis Human Identification Center played a key role in examining the remains.

Anyone with information can contact the FBI at (614) 849-1765.
