The Indiana State Department of Health has confirmed 1,023 cases of Hepatitis A in Indiana as part of a multi-state outbreak of the highly infectious liver disease.

That includes 52 cases in Lawrence County, 38 cases in Jackson County and 29 cases in Monroe County.

Four Hoosiers have died and 520 have been hospitalized since the outbreak reached Indiana last January.

Including public clinics and private offices, 119,325 vaccines have been administered.

About 3,300 vaccines have been given in Monroe County; two Bloomington restaurants, Buffalo Wild Wings and Yumble, warned patrons of possible exposure after an employee with Hepatitis A handled food there during a short period of time.

And, in Delaware County, Sheriff Tony Skinner says some of the seven confirmed cases are at the jail.

The disease attacks the liver and causes symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, fever and jaundice.
