ALDI plans to open a second store in Bloomington's former Barnes & Noble this summer. The grocer also plans to renovate and expand its existing west side location.

In a statement, the company says it's part of their $5 billion investment to expand to 2,500 stores by the end of 2022.

The company says the new store will open in late summer, which is also when renovations at its first Bloomington location will take place. Plans to upgrade that store include adding open ceilings, natural lighting and more food storage for produce, dairy and meat. The company says the additional retail space means it will be able to offer more products to shoppers.

Barnes & Noble closed earlier this month after 23 years in business. Representatives for the company did not offer a reason for the closure.
