Hundreds Of Farmers Attend Hemp Growing Session

More than 100 farmers attended an information session about growing hemp this afternoon in Versailles.

The Indiana General Assembly passed a bill this year giving some farmers the green light to grow the crop.

Farmers say they’re optimistic in the variety of uses the crop has—those can include everything from car panels, clothing, to snacks and CBD oil.

Jamie Campbell Petty is the Treasurer and Co-Founder at the Midwest Hemp Council. She says her work is to help farmers have the tools to market the crop.

"Our goal is to make sure we get the infrastructure in place to let this happen so our farmers can grow this crop — so that they have this opportunity," she says.

Farmers growing hemp now say this year’s weather has made it difficult to provide a guide to produce larger quantities next year.
