Current Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Karl Browning will once again lead the Indiana Department of Transportation after Governor Mike Pence named him to the position Wednesday.
The top job at INDOT opened up after Commissioner Michael Cline left the Pence administration last month to take a job at Purdue University.
Browning has been at the Hoosier Lottery since 2011. He previously served as INDOT Commissioner from 2006 to 2009 under former Governor Mitch Daniels, overseeing the contracting of the Interstate 69 extension project.
In a statement, Governor Pence says Browning's extensive experience will be important in leading an agency that's in the midst of a critical upgrade to Indiana's infrastructure.
"Karl is the right leader for this agency at a critical time in the development of our state's infrastructure, and I am grateful he is willing to continue to serve the people of Indiana in this role," Pence says.
Interim INDOT Commissioner Brandye Hendrickson will continue to lead the state agency during the transition.
